Electrically Released Brakes
"Electrically Released Brakes" are so named
because, when power is removed, the brake engages to stop and/or hold
a load. This occurs when power is lost either intentionally or unexpectedly
due to a machine malfunction or power outage. When power is returned,
the brake electrically releases the load, allowing it to move freely.
Warner Electric offers two types of electrically released brakes:
spring-set; and permanent magnet.
Spring-Set Brakes
Warner Electricís spring-set brakes employ springs
to provide the clamping force for load stopping or holding until the
brake is electromagnetically released. We offer two spring-set brake
product lines: the ERS; and ERD.
ERS Series brakes are designed for providing primarily holding functions,
with occasional emergency stops, and are pre-assembled and pre-burnished
at the factory.
The ERD Series brakes are a dual engagement brake designed to provide
both stopping and holding functions, and are shipped as a kit which
requires user assembley.
Permanent Magnet-Set Brakes
Warner Electricís permanent magnet brakes use powerful
permanent magnets to provide the holding and stopping torque until
electric power to the brake coil nullifies the attraction of the permanent
magnets, releasing the brake. We offer two product lines employing
this design: the FB Series; and the ER Series.
The FB Series offers shaft mounted units in convenient pre-assembled
packages, while the ER Series offers a broader range of sizes and
is designed for flange mounting.
Permanent Magnet-Set , Electrically Released
Modules
In addition to the FB and ER products, we offer a
variety of C-face compatible electrically released brake and clutch/brake
modules. Designed for applications requiring frequent cycling, these
units also employ powerful permanent magnets to stop and hold loads
and are available in a variety of configurations.
